Contemporary interior design with Iroka at Ednovean House

Iroka is a Cornwall based interior design company providing a fresh, contemporary approach to creating a unique living space. We caught up with Luke Weller, the Managing Director, who has worked on a number of our holiday homes, to find out more about contemporary interior design of our luxury holiday property, Ednovean House in Marazion.
Ednovean House was quite a large project for us – the Victorian granite villa used to be an old B&B that once upon a time would have been beautiful, but needed to be completely gutted to bring it into the modern day. The owners practically restructured the rooms inside, making the most of the vast windows and high ceilings, allowing the light to spill into rooms – which gave us a really great canvas to work from.
This project involved a complete re-work from the ground up. The phenomenal six bedroom renovated house included a complete interior architectural package. We were recommended to the owners by Perfect Stays to design and specify the interior of the Victorian house in its entirety. One particularly important feature involved adding a contemporary extension to the back to create a level transition from the open plan kitchen/diner to the decking area – opening the interior space up with large sliding bi-fold doors and achieving the highly sort-after concept of indoor/outdoor living.
Attention to detail is paramount for us here at Iroka: high-end finishes, such as ceiling covings from Belgium and its continuing shadow gap skirting throughout truly does give it that extra edge.
We chose a selection of accessories to dress this stylish home, sourcing high end brands and bespoke services; for example, our own in-store made to measure furnishings department which includes curtains, blinds, cushions and bed runners.
A combination of original features, including oak flooring and stylish soft furnishings, makes this a truly memorable holiday home and it was an interesting to challenge to create such a modern, spacious property inside that still complimented the original granite stone exterior and character of the property.
In such an enormous house with big open spaces and high vacant ceilings, there’s always a risk of furniture being swallowed up by the space. The brief for Ednovean was to keep it simple as well, so we really had our work cut out for us.
Thankfully, the vast spaces are harmoniously balanced by key focal points, such as the incredible feature slate wall made from locally-sourced Cornish slate or the enormous window seats-cum-day beds in the lounge that provide the perfect spot for absorbing the views over St Michael’s Mount while enjoying a good book.
It was a real pleasure working on Ednovean House and it’s great to see it renting so well with Perfect Stays, and hearing such positive feedback about the interior design of the property.
