Steam Packet Inn, Totnes 

Overlooking the tranquil River Dart, the Steam Packet Inn in Totnes is a gem for those wanting to enjoy a riverside Christmas lunch. Offering a three-course feast, the inn is known for its hearty portions, friendly atmosphere and locally sourced produce.  

Expect traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings, sirloin of Devon beef and butternut squash pithivier for mains, while the starters include twice-baked soufflé, elderflower poached pears and dressed crab. Top it all off with a decadent Christmas pudding or their signature dark chocolate delice for dessert.

Kings Arms, Otterton

Renowned for their roast lunches throughout the year, the Kings Arms is a cosy dog-friendly pub on the outskirts of Sidmouth. Nestled in the chocolate box village of Otterton, this traditional pub will be open for a three-course menu on Christmas Day.  

Inside, warm and rustic interiors emulate a relaxed, family-friendly feel with crackling fires and twinkling lights. You’ll be greeted with a glass of prosecco or Buck’s fizz on arrival and the menu offers British classics like Marie Rose prawn cocktail, pork terrine, turkey crown and topside beef. For vegetarians, try their roasted butternut squash with the celeriac soup to start. Rounding things off nicely, tuck into boozy sticky toffee puddings or white chocolate cheesecake.

Devon Hotel & Carriages Brasserie, Exeter 

Located in the heart of Exeter, the Devon Hotel and Carriages Brasserie is known for its elegant interiors and impeccable service. This Christmas, enjoy a five-course meal featuring delicate seafood starters and traditional mains, alongside pescatarian and vegan options like pan-fried red mullet and vegetarian cassoulet.  

The setting is sophisticated yet cosy, with the dining room beautifully decorated for the season. Christmas lunch is served between 12 and 1:15 pm, leaving plenty of time for a riverside walk or bundle into the car and head for Budleigh Salterton for a stomp along the sand.

Seven Stars, Kingsbridge

Nestled amidst the South Hams, the Seven Stars in Kingsbridge offers a wonderful festive atmosphere for Christmas Day lunch. The cosy pub has a special three-course menu for the big day, including their signature roast turkey with pigs in blankets, along with braised lamb shoulder, sirloin surf ‘n’ turf and wild mushroom bourguignon pie.  

Glasses of champagne are served on arrival, and each main is served with festive root veg, rosemary potatoes and honeyed parsnips. With a roaring log fire, twinkling decorations and exceptional customer service, this Devonshire pub is the perfect choice for those looking to celebrate on this corner of the coast.

Old Market House, Brixham 

Situated in picturesque Brixham, the Old Market House, a St Austell Brewery pub, offers stunning views over the harbour. Their Christmas Day lunch menu blends festive classics with fresh seafood, featuring dishes like roast turkey and pan-fried John Dory, finishing off with a decadent dark chocolate fondant for dessert. 

Arrive early to enjoy a tipple at the bar - a tradition amongst locals. With the joyful atmosphere in full swing, everyone will be raising a toast to the occasion.

The Balfour Arms, Sidmouth 

For a traditional yet relaxed Christmas Day lunch in the heart of Sidmouth, look no further than The Balfour Arms. Known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, this family-friendly pub offers a hearty festive menu with all the trimmings. There’s a dedicated three-course children’s menu and five-courses for the adults which includes sirloin steak and pan-fried salmon, as well as the classic turkey roast.
