Extremely popular for surfing, the family friendly beach at Harlyn Bay is a haven for watersports enthusiasts of all abilities. Take to the waves with SUP or coasteering sessions with the fantastic team at Harlyn Surf School or explore a little further afield with a walk around the Seven Bays. Other nearby beaches include the sheltered cove of Trevone and the surrounding sandy bays of Constantine, Treyarnon and Porthcothan. Slightly further afield in Polzeath you can find George's Surf School. Led by experienced tutors, they offer both private and immersive lessons for surfers of all abilities.
Food and drink
Holidays here aren't complete without lunch or dinner at The Pig, which serves a great range of dishes from its 25-mile menu, sourced within the South West. Five minutes outside of Harlyn Bay is Rafferty’s – a great lunchtime spot for tapas and light bites. While just down the road in Padstow, you’ll find Paul Ainsworth’s Number 6 and the lovely St Petroc’s Bistro. Rick Stein’s Padstow Seafood School will teach you how to forage for your supper, while exploring the world of Cornish wines at Camel Valley or Trevibban Mill comes highly recommended for finding your new favourite tipple. There’s a tempting array of local pubs nearby too, including The Cornish Arms in St Merryn.
Outdoor pursuits
Walkers should join the coast path from Harlyn Bay Beach and head north east towards Trevone. If you’re feeling adventurous, continue to Bedruthan Steps before retreating to Carnewas Tearooms for a jam-first cream tea. Stepper Point near Padstow affords spectacular coastal views, with the nearby Doom Bar and Camel Estuary well worth a visit too. Harlyn is surrounded by great golf courses, from Trevose nearby to St Enodoc less than 30 minutes away. For cyclists, the Camel Trail is a flat 18 mile stretch with The Snail’s Pace Café (perfect for lunch) halfway.
Activities for children
A real children’s playground, Harlyn and its surrounding areas have plenty to keep little ones entertained. Pull on your wellies and set off for a day out at Dairyland Farm World, let the kids run riot at Camel Creek Adventure Park or take to the seas and embrace the Cornish outdoors with a wildlife safari. With St Eval go-karting tracks nearby, and zip wire experiences for the thrill-seekers, you’ll never run out of entertaining options.
Time for pampering
Only a short drive away, you’ll find the award-winning Cowshed Spa in Trebetherick. Enjoy a glass of champagne as you indulge in the exclusive beauty treatments, tried and tested at Babington House in Somerset. The renowned Scarlet Spa sits further along the coast in Mawgan Porth, home to cliff top hot tubs and memorable ocean views. Alternatively, The Headland in Newquay provides a lovely setting to relax and unwind with a dip in the pool or an indulgent massage.
Festivals and events
Padstow’s annual Christmas Festival is the perfect way to kick off the festive season. Usually held at the beginning of December, this popular fishing village comes alive with an array of tastes, smells, sounds and unique gifts. The day is filled with celebrity chefs, cooking demonstrations, local produce and a lively Santa fun run. Another big event in Padstow’s calendar, May Day sees the town come alive with flags, flowers, greenery and maypoles.

We had a great stay at Wolf Rock. It's such a tranquil place to be and you can both hear and see the sea from here. The Perfect Stays team ensure all the basics are there so you don't have the faff of sorting out the silly things like dishwasher tablets. Bacon, eggs, nice bread, milk and amazing cake were all ready and waiting for us on arrival. It's an ideal holiday lodge/house with a decent-size enclosed garden for busy springer spaniels.
”Lovely house, perfect position, weather excellent. Superb place for a relaxing family holiday.
”Wolf Rock heaven - what a fantastic place. Yes the Harlyn Inn is under reconstruction until 2023 but that is such a minor consideration it's not worth worrying about. We've been coming to Harlyn for many years now and the place is quiet (by Cornwall standards), clean and exhilarating all at the same time with the quality of the accommodation at Wolf Rock raising the bar even higher without being too pretentious and still allowing for dogs. What a fantastic stay and we will be back.
”Fantastic accommodation in a great location. A very well equipped property that's only a stones throw away from the beach. We would totally recommend staying here... We would love to go back!
”The property was immaculate and had every single item you could think of - it felt like a home from home. We will definitely recommend Perfect Stays to friends and family and I hope to get booked again for ourselves in the future!
”Wolf Rock and Harlyn Bay have come up trumps! What a great house and great beach. Our dogs Freddie and Ginny loved it even more! Only downside is we have to go home. Hopefully we'll be back again.
”We've loved every minute of our stay at Wolf Rock. It's absolutely perfect! We will definitely be back next year.
”Lovely house and beach. Recommend the clifftop walk to Padstow via the Rest A While tea garden. Also Rafferty's in St Merryn and Padstow Farm Shop - the chocolate brownie cake is a treat!
”Lovely stay at Wolf Rock over Easter. Very relaxing. Especially memorable as Maya took her first steps this morning.
”We had a lovely stay here. What a comfortable, clean and well-equipped house. Cornwall is a beautiful and dog-friendly and the people are so charming and laid back. We hope to be back again.
”Unbelievable Jeff!
”What a beautifully equipped kitchen. Love the underfloor heating. Best shop - Padstow Farm Shop and Cafe. Thank you, very relaxing.
