£2350Recommendations for Carlyon Bay
Carlyon Bay sits on a relatively sheltered part of Cornwall’s south coast, meaning it benefits from a smaller swell than its neighbours with conditions suitable for swimming. Take to the water for a day of paddleboarding or for adrenaline-seekers, book a jet ski tour with Waverunner Safaris to spot dolphins and sunbathing seals. Please note there’s no lifeguard cover on this beach.
Known for its laid back dining options, many of Carlyon Bay's restaurants are located on the beach and pop up during the summer months. Find fresh seafood from The Mussell Shoal or keep it casual with a stone baked pizza from Jaspers Kitchen. For a fine dining feast, head to Michelin Guide recipients Edie’s for seasonal menus, local produce and expert dishes. A little further afield, you’ll find family-friendly options including The Longstore and Springtide in nearby Charlestown. Read about more of our favourite restaurants, pubs and cafés nearby on our blog.
Carlyon Bay is a five minute drive from Charlestown, a picturesque fishing port with plenty of activities, bars and restaurants for the whole family. Spend mornings strolling around the cobbled streets in search of hot coffee and fresh pastries, before heading to the harbour to admire the historic tall ships.
Some of Cornwall’s most popular attractions are a short drive away. Highlights include the Eden Project in St Austell (eight miles away), Kidzworld Adventure Play (two miles), Lanhydrock House (10 miles) and Wheal Martyn Clay Works (five miles).
A five minute drive away, Charlestown Beach is a small south-facing shingled bay that sits beside the historic Grade II Listed harbour. Enjoy a dip in its calm waters before exploring cafes, restaurants and shops close by. Please note there is no lifeguard cover on this beach.
15 minutes further down the coast sits Pentewan, a large sandy beach located between St Austell and Mevagissey. Popular with families, this bay is a great spot for swimming and water based activities. Rent equipment such as paddleboards, kayaks and boats from Cornwall Watersports and set off to explore various caves and small coves.
Backed by rugged cliffs, Porthpean is a small sandy beach that sits approximately three miles away from Carlyon Bay. Home to the perfect paddleboarding conditions, Porthpean’s sheltered position on the coast means it benefits from relatively calm conditions. Despite its popularity, there is no lifeguard cover here.
