Support local farmers and small businesses

Cornwall’s farm shops offer more than just fresh produce – they provide a true taste of the West Country. Whether you're after organic vegetables and free-range meats for your beach barbeque, or craving warm scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream after a coastal walk, shopping locally is a great way to support Cornwall’s artisans while keeping your food miles low. Here are six of the best, handpicked by our team...

1. Boscastle Farm Shop

Known as one of the best in Cornwall and perched on a working farm with stunning coastal views, Boscastle Farm Shop is a must-visit for foodies. Inside, you’ll find artisanal cheeses, homemade preserves and honeys, and a selection of freshly baked sourdough, cakes, and pastries – perfect for stocking up the cupboards with high-quality ingredients. Their list of suppliers champions local businesses and includes Callestick Farm, Tintagel Brewery, Trewithen Dairy, and Cornish Orchards.

The café is also well worth a visit, with their afternoon teas famous countywide. Watch the waves from the dog-friendly garden or head indoors to savour warm pasties, fruit scones, and butterscotch cheesecake.

Nearby properties: The Paddock and The Yellow Cottage in Trebarwith Strand.

2. Lobb’s Farm Shop

Located on the Heligan estate, Lobb’s Farm Shop is an ideal place to stock up if you’re on the south coast. Awarded multiple Good Food awards, you’ll find seasonally grown vegetables harvested on-site, alongside an impressive selection of Cornish wines, beers, spirits, and mead.

Head to their butchery counter for breakfast and barbeque supplies, with a range of grass-fed beef and lamb proudly reared on nearby farms. Or browse their generous selection of hampers, luxury chocolates, and locally roasted coffee beans if you're after a holiday keepsake or gift.

It's only right to combine a trip with a wander around the neighbouring Lost Gardens of Heligan. Stunning year-round, it’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with various trails, woodland walks, and kitchen gardens to explore.

Nearby property: Serenity in Carlyon Bay.

3. St Kew Farm Shop

Perfect for those en route to their luxury holiday home in Polzeath, St Kew Farm Shop has a fully stocked pantry of local favourites. Having won Cornwall's best farm shop award in 2023, expect to find Freda’s Peanut Butter, Sarah & Finn’s Chutneys, Camel Valley wines, and a deli fridge filled to the brim with local cheeses and charcuterie.

Coffee-lovers will appreciate their collection of Yallah Coffee beans, while those wishing to sample some local beers can take their pick from Bluntrock, Baron, and Harbour breweries.

Not only is a great spot for groceries, but there’s also a café on-site. Dog-friendly and open from breakfast through to late lunch, their menu changes monthly with a tempting cake counter for takeaway sweet treats.

Nearby properties: Trelorna, Sunny Seven and Treasure House in Polzeath.

4. Trevaskis Farm

More than just a farm shop, Trevaskis Farm offers a butchery, bakery, and fishmonger all in one. Set on 28 acres of beautiful countryside, it’s a fantastic day out for families all year round. Pick your own strawberries in the summer, pumpkins in the autumn, and in the spring, visit the lambs and piglets.

Stocking store cupboard essentials as well as an incredible range of artisan products, the shop makes a great pitstop for those on their way to the beach. Fill a picnic basket with Baker Tom’s rolls, scotch eggs, sun-blushed tomatoes and the chef’s homemade quiches before a day spent rockpooling and bodyboarding at Gwithian. Meanwhile, their on-site restaurant is famous for its incredible dessert menu, so be sure to save room for something sweet.

Nearby property: Ednovean House in Perranuthnoe.

5. Thorne’s Fruit & Veg

A greengrocer renowned for its exceptional selection of seasonal fruit and veg, Thorne’s is a go-to spot for many in West Cornwall. As seen in our concierge case study with Flavour and Wine, chef Rob Michael talks us through the importance of shopping locally and seasonally - making Thorne’s a natural choice when crafting menus for our guests. Alongside farm-fresh produce, their shelves are stocked with local chutneys, preserves, honeys, and sauces, while the chiller offers a tempting selection of cheeses. If you spot Cornish Yarg, we highly recommend stocking up.

Pair your visit with a stop at Marisco to pick up the finest seafood and shellfish before heading home to cook up a true Cornish feast.

Nearby properties: Porth Enys House in Mousehole and Shun Lee in St Ives.

6. The Farmyard Market

A little different to your standard farm shop, Truro’s Farmyard Market brings together some of Cornwall’s finest independent producers every Saturday. Taking place on Tresemple Farm, there’s always a buzzing atmosphere and it’s worth arriving early for first pick of farm-to-table delights.

Suppliers include Wildes Bakery for fresh out-of-the-oven sourdough and cinnamon buns, Soul Farm for locally grown fruit and vegetables, Tresemple Farm for high-quality meats, and Hanson Cheese for an exceptional dairy selection.

Accessibility notes: The above farm shops have level-entry and accessible parking. However, St Kew Farm Shop has narrow walkways, which may make manoeuvring more challenging. We recommend contacting venues in advance to confirm accessibility details and any additional assistance they can provide.
