Port Isaac is best known for being the filming location for ITV’s hit TV drama Doc Martin. Tourists from around the world flock to the fishing village to see the famous set, including the doctor’s surgery and home from the show. Another famous export is the folk group Fisherman’s Friends, whose sea shanty renditions have resulted in two acclaimed feature films. Port Isaac is also well known for being one of Cornwall’s most beautiful coastal gems and draws visitors from far and wide to its narrow streets, quaint cottages and spectacular coastal trails.
The nearest town to Port Isaac is Wadebridge. This historic market town lies on the River Camel and serves as a gateway to the Camel Trail – a scenic 18 mile walking trail that carves its way through the Cornish countryside to Bodmin, attracting walkers, horse riders and cyclists from near and far. Wadebride town centre offers a variety of independent shops, pubs and popular eateries.
The village of rock is less than nine miles from Port Isaac and provides a ferry service over the River Camel to Padstow. This picture-perfect town is a foodie haven and has earned a reputation for hosting restaurants fronted by celebrity and Michelin-awarded chefs. Padstow also charms with its sandy beaches and coastal trails.
Port Isaac has a variety of family-friendly destinations on its doorstep that provide shelter on a rainy day. Dating back to 1779, Bodmin Jail provides a fascinating step through time, with theatrical effects bringing tales of its former inmates to life – it’s also said to be haunted.

Around the coastline, Port Quinn offers a prime sheltered spot for sea swimming.
