Built in the early 1800s, The Watermill retains all of its original charm and character, with a waterwheel set in the quietly trickling stream that surrounds this period cottage.
Wide, green expanses of lawn and farmland surround the property on the private Whitehay Estate, and there are nearby tennis courts and a croquet lawn for guest use. Wonderfully idyllic, while away long summer days amongst the wild orchards, beehives and stream before tramping along the endless woodland trails.
Stout stone walls with deep inset windows make even the large open spaces of the kitchen and living room feel incredibly cosy and warm. The original stone fireplace has been brought back to life with a wood burner, which casts an atmospheric glow during winter retreats. Just as lovely on summer days, open up the French doors and let the sunshine pour in from the surrounding countryside and spacious decking.
The country-style master bedroom is tucked beneath the eaves upstairs and benefits from a super king size bed. The second bedroom comes with a super king bed which can be set up as twins if needed and looks out across the luscious garden on the ground floor. There’s a spacious bathroom just next door.
Situated within the picturesque Ruthern Valley in North Cornwall, The Watermill is ideal for those looking to escape from the fast pace of everyday life and take a moment to recharge. Peace and quiet is in abundance, whilst the popular north coast beaches of Polzeath, Harlyn Bay, Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay are all within a 30 minute drive.

We stayed at The Watermill almost thirty years ago and always knew we'd like to return one day. It's such a lovely place to stay and very tranquil. The beds are scrumptious and the linen was perfect. We love exploring Cornwall and Devon; who knows, maybe we may return again one day.
”A beautiful cottage in such beautiful surroundings. Thank you to Julian and Cherry for making us so welcome. All the little touches are so much appreciated. Being able to walk through the grounds is truly wonderful and the paths link into so many footpaths, meaning you can explore the surrounding areas well. Thank you to you all, for such wonderful hospitality.
”We have absolutely loved our stay at The Watermill. We've had brilliant days out all across the local beaches and further afield too, but we've loved coming back to this special place every evening. We will really miss the peace and tranquility. Thank you, Cherry and Julian, for your hospitality!
”Thank you so much for another wonderful stay. We loved our time here once again. Such a beautiful and relaxing setting and the mill is so comfortable, we'll be back! Thanks for all the kind hospitality!
”Sad to leave this lovely cottage. We have so enjoyed meeting you, and also walking in your beautiful grounds. Hopefully this won't be our only stay here!
”The Watermill was absolutely fantastic: beautifully presented and very homely! The location was superb and the gardens and walk down to the river were lovely.
Everything you needed was provided together with a very generous welcome pack, and Julian and Cherry were very friendly and welcoming hosts.
A splendid property in a wonderful setting. No hesitation in recommending a holiday at The Watermill.
”What a great place to stay if you want space, peace and quiet. Julian and Cherry were very welcoming and helpful. The place is immaculate, and you have about 65 acres to wander around, including paddocks, woods and streams to follow - there's also picnic tables and a fire pit. You're not far from Wadebridge, Padstow and also Fowey and St. Austell. All in all, we loved this place and didn't want to leave. We would 100% recommend.
”A truly magical place, I would definitely recommend this property. The house and surrounding gardens are wonderful, a little piece of heaven on earth!
”We had a super stay at the property. Julian and Cherry were wonderful hosts - just the right amount of making sure we were fine and there were no niggles with the property and giving us space. They even brought round a bottle of prosecco for my husband's birthday. The children loved the outdoor space and being able to roam (and the Netflix on cold evenings!) Thank you to Julian and Cherry for a super week.
”Thank you Julian and Cherry for a lovely stay. The Watermill is a beautiful tranquil spot in a great location for exploring Cornwall. We've had a wonderful time and will no doubt find our way back in the future.

”Just wanted to say that during these very unsettled times we have all found ourselves in this year, to be able to stay at The Watermill was perfect in everyway. Immaculate, peaceful and very homely. The scones, milk, bread, butter and jam was a lovely gesture. Many thanks.
”Wow, what a fantastic holiday home! We have had a really lovely week and enjoyed exploring the wonderful grounds. The Watermill is very well equipped and so relaxing and peaceful. ”The premises were excellent, clean and it had everything you could possibly want including instructions for all the equipment in the house. There was a welcome food package to get the holiday off to a good start which included milk, bread, eggs, bacon, Cornish cream, jam and scones, which we enjoyed very much. Very quiet location and lovely grounds to walk around.
”Had a fabulous time at The Watermill. Lovely tranquil setting and the hosts, Julian and Cherry, were really welcoming. Felt a true home from home. In a great location for exploring this part of Cornwall with both the north and south coast beaches easy to reach and Bodmin on your doorstep. Thanks for a perfect stay!
”We had to find somewhere for half-term at the last minute and Perfect Stays were fantastic in helping. The setting is beautiful, the owners were very welcoming and the house itself is delightful.
We know the area well and also found the grounds of the house fantastic to walk in with our 2 children (aged 10 and 6). We would definitely stay here again and having used Perfect Stays before would book through them without hesitation.
”We have spent the most lovely week here. The glorious weather has helped, but the house is perfect and Julian and Cherry are delightful hosts. We have enjoyed the house and gardens immensely, wandered the woods and river, played tennis daily and are sad to leave.
